Aurecon

Mozambique gained independence in 1975 and at the time was considered to be one of the world's poorest countries. Until the mid-1990s Mozambique’s development was hindered by a number of factors, including severe drought, civil war and heavy economic dependence on South Africa. 

Since 1994, increased political stability and donor aid has seen the economy begin to grow. There has been a focus on improving sanitation, roads, agriculture, and the business regulation environment in an attempt to stimulate economic growth.   

Aurecon has been working in Mozambique since the late 1980s, primarily involved with infrastructure upgrading and development projects. A local Aurecon office was opened in Maputo in 1993 with a team committed to providing the expertise and skills to effect real change in the communities where they operate.   

Projects include many road feasibility, design and construction supervision projects including the N6 Beira Corridor and the N1 between Inchope and Caia; reclassification of the Mozambique road network; a feasibility update and an evaluation of the transport of coal from Moatize to Nacala; and support to the transport sector.
